Ritika & Ranjana Shraff are showing the world how to stay & look Foppish

A mother and her daughters are always at loggerheads with each other! But here is a trio, a mother and her 2 daughters who are creating quite the hype with their affordable fashion jewellery! Yes girls, you didn’t hear me wrong. I did say affordable fashion jewellery. Check out Foppish Mart, the new accessories store on the block. Apart from fashion jewellery, Foppish Mart also offers home accessories and gifting solutions.

Giving wings to their creativity and servicing their needs for elegant fashion accessories at affordable prices, Ranjana and Ritika Shraff started Foppish Mart not long back. 


Initially only having sold at exhibitions, they recently opened up their own online store. And one of the most unique features of Foppish Mart which caught our attention was, they stock raw materials like beads and butis. This was an attempt to help budding entrepreneurs, by making these raw materials accessible to them at affordable prices.

We recently caught up with them to know what was the big-bang moment in which they decided to start Foppish Mart. And how is it been so far.

1.       What is your brand all about and what do you sell?


The word Foppish means elegance, refinement and style – symbolizing everything that our creations stand for! Foppish Mart offers a blend of contemporary & traditional, classy & affordable products from various walks of life ranging from personal accessories to home decor. Most of our products have been handcrafted – either self-designed or procured from artisans and craftsmen.

We salute the immense talent the youth of India has, and to help the budding designers create their masterpieces at the click of a button, we also offer beads, butis, motifs, quilling work among other raw materials.

2.      When and how did Foppish Mart start out? How long did you play with the idea before you started out?

Foppish Mart started out in January, 2013 as a result of dreams and hard work. All of us have always been creatively inclined and our ideas and designs have always been appreciated by friends and family. In the last few years, we have been holding regular exhibitions of our products and also selling them through other e-stores, The response has always been very encouraging and we realised its time to make our hobby into our profession. With a “ITS NOW OR NEVER ATTITUDE”, we decided to launch our very own online store Foppish Mart.

 3.      What was the one major challenge you overcame since you started out?

A key challenge for any start-up is to ensure a robust value chain that ensures end-to-end customer delight. We faced similar challenges initially in getting a good logistic partner onboard.

 4.      What was Foppish Mart’s first product and what is the story behind it?

As school girls and then young college going women, cool accessories were an integral part of our daily wardrobe. As working professionals, we want our accessories classy and stylish. However, we often found these accessories expensive or of limited variety. So we started by designing bracelets. These were loved by our friends and relatives giving us the confidence to experiment with more ideas and products. This was merely a hobby until we realized it was time for something big to happen.

5.      How have your audiences received your brand? Which is your best selling product? 

The brand has been doing fairly well considering its still at a very nascent stage. Our best selling products have been our Fashion Jewellery.


6.       Apart from your online store, what are some of your other point of sales? Say, exhibitions, retail outlets, etc. Which one has worked best for you?

The concept of an online store is to meet the needs of globalization. Its takes time to build customer confidence. At the same time, it is very important that we keep looking for other outlets to build our customer base.  One of our most successful sales channels has been Exhibitions, where the foot-fall is very good and there is scope for one- to-one interaction with customers. As designers and retailers, we need to respect the fact that “Customer is King”. Exhibitions help us in understanding customer preferences better.

Besides this, bulk selling to retailers at subsidized prices is another option that has worked well for us.

 7.      What was the one thing that pushed you to start selling online? And how has the whole experience of setting up your own online store been?

It was realization! Realization that there is a large untapped market for our products in various parts of the country. There is demand but no supply. To reach out to these prospective customers we decided to go online.

Well initially it all looked like a mammoth task, but Zepo made it look very much possible. So far its been great journey working with Zepo. Through Zepo you can give a complete personal touch to your very own e-store.

 8.     What is the one activity that has worked best for you in online marketing? Any marketing tips for our entrepreneurs and artists?

Our Social Networking Friend “Facebook” is a great driver. Tips for entrepreneurs and artists is  that  when you are convinced about your idea and your products, invest in it and give it wings to fly . Social media has opened a world of opportunities.

Now let’s chat up about your journey as entrepreneurs. There are a lot of budding entrepreneurs out there, looking for a slight nudge in the right direction. And what is your advice to them. 

1.      How do you define success?

Success for me is an outcome of hard work and luck. As someone has rightly quoted, “The harder one works, the luckier one gets”. Doing what you love with sincere efforts leads to success.

2.     Keeping the same levels of enthusiasm everyday is not easy. What keeps you inspired and motivated every day?

It’s simple, when you dare to dream Big, your dream keeps you inspired and motivated to keep going. Every time someone places an order, its acts as an energy booster both at mental and physical level.

3.     What are some of the decisions that have worked best for you?

Decisions taken from heart and supported by mind have always worked for me. At the moment setting up an e-store is one such decision. It is something we love doing backed my tremendous potential.

 4.     What is the one big mistake that you made as an entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is bound to make mistakes. No matter how well planned your venture is, hurdles keep cropping. It’s a continuous learning experience. You learn and grow with time.

 5.     What has been your proudest moment as an entrepreneur?

Everytime your work is appreciated its a moment of pride and joy. But the biggest day so far has been when Foppish Mart went LIVE.

 6.     If you could give one piece of advice to would-be entrepreneurs, looking to follow in your footsteps, what would it be?

You have an idea and conviction then just go for it. Do not wait for the right time. Make each moment your right time.  Risk it now, Its Now or Never. Once you have taken the big step forward just don`t look back!  All the very best to all the Would- be entrepreneurs.
