Cat’s Outta the Bag- Zepo Raises Funding
We are a Mumbai-based startup and have been helping small businesses and first generation entrepreneurs make their first foray into online selling. We provide a DIY platform for SMBs to easily start their own online stores without any tech knowledge as a prerequisite.
I started/founded Zepo on August, 2011. Prior to Zepo, I had tried my hands at two businesses, one of which was in the apparel segment and the other one in technology. The good experience as a small business owner in the apparel industry and the learnings from running a technology company have equipped me to run and grow Zepo efficiently as well as understand the target market well.
From being an e-commerce platform to becoming a complete online selling solution, we now offer everything from integrated payment gateways to marketing support and Zepo’s very own logistics solutions, ZePOST.
Zepo today has grown to a include a multitude of sellers and product categories, to the extent of being a favourite across first generation entrepreneurs in India! Being the preferred platform for popular businesses like Okaya Power Group, SoleThreads and Pebble India, Zepo has come to cater to more than 1200+ online stores.
We are excited to be partnering with Anupam Mittal, of Shaadi.com, who quoted “Zepo has the potential to emerge as one of the few superstar SaaS companies from India. The market is huge and we are still at ground zero. With the funding round, we are expected to further consolidate the leadership in this category.”
This year we started 2 new offices, based out of Delhi and Bangalore, in May and June respectively. With the recent influx of funds, we want to aggressively concentrate on strengthening base in current markets as well as explore new overseas markets. At the same time, the idea is to exponentially grow the current sales team from a gang of 20 across 3 cities to 100 across 4 cities in next 1 year. We have ambitious plans to position Zepo as the leading e-commerce platform providers in India while introducing new features and enhancements.
In the early 2000, during the telecom market boon, businesses realized the value & potential of telephone as a channel to do business & have leveraged it well. We see internet and e-commerce as the next big channels for small businesses to leverage & grow. In coming years, we foresee every business extensively using ecommerce & internet as a channel, just like a telephone. There are 26 million SMBs in India & many more in the other markets. All players in the industry together have just touched the tip of the iceberg. The potential ahead is huge.
