  • Hi Sanjib, COD transactions are popular due to the convenience and secure feeling they provide to the end consumer along with low card penetration. According to an EnY report, COD makes up 60%-80% of all e-commerce transactions and it is here to stay. Fraudulent activities will be prevalent in every venture that is taken up, but more often than not the law eventually catches up!

    • Sanjib Das

I completely agree with you, low card penetration and low trust level in online transaction have made COD the most preferred payment mode. But at the same time I think we cannot ignore the negative side of it. We got to think about it seriously. It’s an evil which is killing all small scale new players. Any healthy competitive environment should always welcome new entrants and keep the momentum of growth uninterrupted.
Now to reduce the COD, as you mentioned, we need more and more card penetration. Indian consumers by and large are not very confident in using their card for online shopping and there are some valid reasons for this. Internet penetration percentage, poor connectivity, payment gateway failure etc. etc. Things may improve eventually but when? Shall we wait for that perfect time to come or explore other options, ofcourse we know our current constraints. How about designing a new payment approach where my customer can avail products without COD or card payment.

  • Hi Gurasees,

While we cannot arrange the photoshoot directly, we do have a few trusted partners who will be able to help you with this? What city are you located in within India?

  • Hi Aditya,

You can open an online business from anywhere in India. However, do check about any local regulations that might apply to you within your state.

my wife wants to start a business of online selling goods on online e-commerce sites like flip-kart , Amazon etc . As an individual , is it necessary to get a TIN/CST/VAT registration for starting this business? Can we start it using PAN card and Saving account details

    • Hi Harish,

You can definitely start selling with just those. But if you want to sell online on marketplaces, they have certain pre-requisites that need to be fulfilled before you can sell with them. The pre-requisites include VAT and TIN registrations.

    • technically you wont require any kind of registration if you want to sell through ebay, other marketplaces require registration

  • Divesh@ just go to http://www.myonlineca.in and apply for the VAT Registration in Your City with local legal professional. myonlineca helps you completely online and get done your vat hassle free.

  • Hi Nitin,

The CST will be different based on states but the VAT remains same.

  • Hi Divesh,

To sell on any of the mentioned marketplaces interstate, you will need a VAT/CST/TIN number. Also VAT is to sell within the state and CST is to sell interstate. However, now you just need one number which acts as the VAT/CST/TIN.
